Nicholas Gallery is reopening with a show exhibiting student work from 9 women who study Art at the Xavier University. These artists represent and illustrate what it is to be a student studying art, becoming influenced by historical artists, and discovering themselves as young adults.

Nicholas believes that young emerging artist should have the opportunity to show their work outside the university and learn the process of working with art galleries. As an UC alumni, Nicholas was taught the process, but didn’t understood how to make it work and current students he’s spoken with feel the same. Nicholas worked closely with the Society of Visual Arts at XU; a well-organized group of students who coordinate on and off campus events.

The show consists of painting, photography, sculpture, collage, drawing, and ceramics. There are influences of Romare Bearden, classical literature, Italy, and the pre-Raphaelite movement. As undergraduate students these woman demonstrate the beginnings of great artists. It’s exciting to think that one of these nine women will be remembered in the history of art.
