The E. Court St. Art Market

Breaking the barriers of art and making them moveable

By Jessie Gridley

DOWNTOWN
Rollable walls reach across the East Court Street sidewalks outside from Nicholas Gallery.

Gallery owner Nicholas Paddock, has created an environment that is more inviting and open than ever, despite the additional six movable walls he built with unused renovation wood.

Paddock, 28, does not show artwork of his own, but he is passionate about providing an opportunity and space for other artists.
"I'm a big advocate for artists I'm very interested in their voice and [their] message," he says.

That is why it only seems natural to create the Sidewalk Art Market, which opens space for 12 additional artists to display their work outdoors. Before opening the outdoor market, Nicholas Gallery could only feature one artist at a time within the indoor space.

He knows the talent is out there in the City, and looks at his walls as a way to show more work without destroying the effect of the interior gallery show.

He adds that his indoor gallery space is booked solid, but he wants to find more local artists who may be interested in participating in the Sidewalk Art Market.
